Dr. Victor M. Pedro

Founder and Director

Dr. Victor M. Pedro is founder and director of Rhode Island Integrated Medicine (RIIM), located in Cranston, Rhode Island. An accomplished Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, Dr. Pedro pioneered the development of PEDROCIT® — a breakthrough, research-based diagnostic and treatment methodology designed to address brain and neurological dysfunction in children and adults.

A graduate of the University of Vermont, Dr. Pedro received his doctorate from the New York Chiropractic College. Following his post-doctoral studies, which focused on neurology, Dr. Pedro received his Diplomate Degree from the American College of Chiropractic Neurology (DABCN). He is credentialed by the American Chiropractic Neurology Board as a certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS) and is separately certified in Childhood Developmental Disorders (CDD).

In 2003, after achieving significant independently verified success using PEDROCIT to treat school-age students with speech, attention, and learning disabilities, Dr. Pedro applied PEDROCIT to treat patients with a wider range of brain-based disorders and acquired brain injuries.

In 2005, Dr. Pedro’s successful treatment with PEDROCIT of Landau-Kleffner Syndrome, a rare seizure-based language disorder, was published in the International Journal of Neuroscience. In 2008, following the successful surgical replantation of a patient’s severed hand, Dr. Pedro used PEDROCIT to retrain the brain and hand to work together, significantly increasing the functionality of the limb. The New England Hand Society published the results of his work.

Dr. Pedro was appointed to the Medical Advisory Board of the Sarah Jane Brain Project in 2010 after successfully treating Sarah Jane Donohue, the world’s most documented pediatric brain injury case. He was appointed to the Brain Project’s International Medical Advisory Board the following year.

Dr. Pedro has lectured extensively on PEDROCIT as a non-invasive, cost-effective treatment for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion, pain syndrome, vertigo, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), and other brain-related disorders. He has delivered presentations at the invitation of such diverse bodies as the New York Board of Education, the Ministry of Health in the Republic of Angola, and the Shefa Neuroscience Research Center and Razavi International Hospital in Iran. His work has been extensively presented, including presentations and lectures at the Pacific Rim Conference (work presented by the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative) at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu (2006), Center for Brain Health at the University of Texas, Dallas (2012), Sarah Jane Brain Foundation Angel Awards Dinner at Columbia University Medical Center, New York City (2013), the 8th Annual National P.A.I.N. Summit in Chandler, Arizona (2014), and at the 10th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology in Lisbon, Portugal (2016).

Dr. Pedro and the late Dr. Carlos Lima (Lisbon, Portugal), a leading international stem cell specialist, were nominated for the Vision Award of the Champalimaud Foundation (Lisbon) in 2011. Before Dr. Lima’s passing, the two were collaborating on a study that explored the use of stem cell transplantation and PEDROCIT rehabilitation therapy for the treatment of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). This work was to be jointly presented at the International Neurosurgery Congress in Mashhad, Iran in 2012.

PEDROCIT was approved by the State of Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services and Rhode Island Medicaid in 2012 as a reimbursable procedure for Medicaid patients. Dr. Pedro commenced a three-year Medicaid pilot in 2015 for the State of Rhode Island for patients diagnosed with acquired brain injury and various brain-based disorders.

Over the years, there have been numerous radio and TV interviews with and about Dr. Victor M. Pedro and PEDROCIT, and print media and blog stories written by or about many of his patients.

Recent select media examples include a story about entertainer Paula Abdul and her successful treatment by Dr. Pedro for RSD that appeared in the June 2013 issue of Pain Pathways Magazine. Stories about Wil Trapp, MLS midfielder of the Columbus Crew and his comeback from a devastating concussion, were reported by MLSsoccer.com on August 19, 2015 and The Columbus Dispatch on April 22, 2015 and July 3, 2015. Tracy Yatsko, concussion advocate, former spokesperson for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and subject of an Emmy-nominated TV documentary about concussions in youth sports, is covered extensively on the Internet. Cara Griffith and her struggles to overcome brain injuries sustained through concussions appeared in the April 2015 issue of Parenting NH magazine. Cara also gave a TEDx talk that year about her long journey to recovery from traumatic brain injury.

In addition, many special reports and feature stories have been aired on TV, including stories on NBC10, WJAR (Providence); ABC6, WLNE (Providence and New Bedford); Fox12, WPRI (Providence); PBS39, (Bethlehem, PA); and Sports Legends New England with Bob Lobel.
